What aspects of automated bin picking are already working reliably? And where do the challenges lie? At the Stäubli Automation Summit on 19 and 20 November 2026, Marco Tobler, sales engineer at aerne engineering, will provide an insight into applications that have already been implemented and highlight the challenges involved in handling unknown or unsorted parts.
A robot picks up a part from a box and prepares it for the next stage of processing. What looks simple actually requires precise coordination between robotics, image recognition, gripping technology and control systems. But what happens when the parts are unknown or unsorted? How can they be reliably identified, gripped and prepared for further processing? And which technologies are already suitable for practical use in this context?
This is precisely what Marco Tobler’s presentation at the Stäubli Automation Summit 2026 in Bayreuth will focus on. At Stäubli’s invitation, he will be presenting aerne engineering’s experience with various bin-picking applications on 19 November – and demonstrating what is technically possible today and where the limits lie.
From a client project to a bin-picking reality check The starting point is an assembly line developed for a customer, in which aerne engineering has successfully implemented a CAD-based bin-picking solution using Stäubli robots. In his presentation ‘Bin-picking with unknown or unsorted items – challenges and success factors’, Marco Tobler examines the current state of the art, highlights the limitations of existing solutions and discusses the factors for success in industrial applications.
Stäubli Robotics & Automation Summit: Focus on the Future of Automation Under the theme ‘Shaping the Future of Smart Manufacturing’, Stäubli will bring together experts from the fields of robotics and industrial automation in Bayreuth on 19 and 20 November 2026. Specialist presentations, workshops and live demonstrations will provide an insight into the latest developments and offer opportunities for discussion. We are delighted to be part of this international industry event, drawing on our engineering expertise to contribute practical insights to the programme.
